Fall Mountain - revised

I revised the painting because it seemed that the reflection was just not right. I added impressions of the mountain and I think it definitely improved it. What do you think?

Fall Mountain

Oil on Canvas Paper
16" x 20"
I think I might need to go back to painting with brushes. I am pleased with this painting, which was done with a knife, but might like to try it again with brushes and see if I can get better texture and details.

Covered Bridge

Oil on Board
12" x 16"
This took a long time to complete because I have such a hard time getting the perspective right. There's supposed to be more detail, but I thought I should quite while I was ahead!

Dock in Austria
oil on board 16" x 20"
I loved this! Painted from a photo brother Jim took in Austria; I used techniques learned at the school of light and color. I think it's a keeper!

Harbor2
oil on canvas 30" x 24"
My friend gave me three photos with elements in each that she liked and asked me if I could paint a mural on her wall. I told her if I could paint it small, then scale it up, I might consider it. She liked my first attempts, but she said the mountains were too purple.
This was my second attempt, and I like it better. I'm not happy with the boat, as I'm not very good with detail, but I'll live with it. I love the mountains, especially the one in the far distance, it seems as if the sun is bouncing off it.
I'm still not convinced about my ability to scale it up to a wall sized mural, and anyway, it's time to move on to another subject. Perhaps I'll see if she will be happy framing this and hanging it on her wall.

Desolate
Oil on board; 11"x14"
This was based off a photo that was "explored" on Flickr. I obtained permission from the photographer. I may go back and add some more highlights and details, but for now, I am quite pleased with the results.

Perspective
oil on board 11" x 14"
This was the last of my paintings from my art class. It was a repeat, and quite interesting to see the improvement. (Dec. 27, 2012 02:55)

Glencoe Cottage
Oil on canvas 16" x 20"
This was painted from a photo that was recently "explored" with kind permission from the excellent photographer.
The subject was fantastic and I loved the play of light and shadow across the landscape.

My art class is really starting to pay off!

Field of flowers
Oil on board 9" x 12"
I did this in one setting last night. It took about three hours from start to finish. I applied the new techniques I am learning in my art class (you remember, the one I said I didn't like!) Now I love this style and I love painting with a knife. I don't kinow what I will do with all the brushes I have!

High Road 2

This is a re-take of a painting I did once before, only this time I did it in an art class where I am learning to apply an impressionistic style

Japanese Garden2
Oil on Canvas 40" x 30"
This was a re-take of a painting I did before. I liked it so much I wanted to try it on a larger scale. Ths is the largest painitng I've done. I really enjoyed painting it. I repainted over a framed canvas that Ron gave to me, and now it's hanging on the wall in my bedroom.

Japanese Garden
Acrylic and oil on paper 16" x 20"
I like this! It was painted (with permission ) from a photo I saw on flickr. I loved the colors and the composition and I feel I've captured the essence of the place.
The picture I took of the painting came out much brighter and more vibrant then it is in my living room. It's more muted than this picture would have you think.

Vase & Flower

Oil on paper 8" x 10"
This was one of the lessons from my art class. It took a long time for the flower to start actually looking like a flower, and not just a round blob!

Lake trail

Acrylic on paper 8"x10"
I took a photo of this scene while jogging on Saturday, then went home and painted it. It looks like a nice place for a picnic, doesn't it?

Catching up

I just realized I had stopped posting my paintings here, so I am going to catch up. I have almost 2 years of paintings that I failed to post previously, so bear with me!
