Cross Currents

Oil on paper 12" x 16" This looks better from far away. I had hoped for a stronger sense of power and motion, but I can't seem to get there. At this point, I would just be wasting more paint trying to improve it, and since it does look good from far away, I've signed it and called it done.

Orchard

acrylic on paper 8"x10" Another sloppy acrylic. I haven't gotten the hang of it yet - oil is so much easier to handle, but I suppose it all comes down to practice

Watercolor exercises

Snowy day
watercolor on paper 8" x 10" This is a simple exercise to learn to paint with watercolors. It is meant to teach about aerial perspective Spring Day
watercolor on paper 8" x 10" This is another simple exercise to learn to paint with watercolors. The lesson here is to not be afraid to paint with watercolors! Storms Ahead
watercolor on paper 8" x 10" I'm starting to get the hang of water color, as I keep practicing. I love the contrast of dark and light clouds against the background mountains. The reflection of the clouds in the sand didn't come out as well as they might have, but overall, I am pleased with this.

Monochromatic color exercise

Watercolor and Acrylic on paper 12" x 16" I've got a new book to teach me about color theory and color choices and this is one of the first exercises, which teaches about color value. The idea is to paint two versions of the same landscape in a monochromatic color scheme, one using a warm color and the other using a cool color. I think I favor the warm color scheme.

Sun and Shade

Arcylic on paper 8" x 10" This was a quick practice painting that is supposed to capture a sense of sun and shade. It was a little sloppy, but satisfying none the less.

Dawn Ranch

Oil on canvas 16" x 20" You can almost hear the birds chirping as the sun rises early in the morning

acrylic and oil on canvas 12"x16" This was just a quick practice painting to help take my mind off the stomach flu that has gripped me these last few days
